Make Smoke For Halloween

Use a fog machine to create a spooky Halloween atmosphere.

Fake smoke creates a spooky atmosphere for Halloween performances or front yard displays. A well-positioned fog machine, in combination with spotlights, completes a Halloween display with a steady flow of translucent, safe smoke. During the Halloween season, many department stores sell fog machines for as little as $40. Theatrical supply companies also rent fog machines for a small fee.

Instructions

1. Choose a fog machine and liquid that best suits your needs: some fog machines produce a low lying fog, while others fill a room with fog from top to bottom. Fog liquid comes in several different colors to produce colored or traditional white smoke.

2. Fill your fog machine with fog liquid.

3. Set the fog machine with the front side facing wherever you want smoke to flow. The front of the fog machine has a small circular hole, which allows fog to escape. To prevent Trick or Treaters from seeing the machine, hide it in an inconspicuous location: behind a gravestone, cauldron or bush or on the roof.

4. Plug the fog machine in, using extension cords if necessary. Keep the cords away from walkways to prevent trip hazards.

5. Set up spotlights strategically around your yard or stage to illuminate the smoke. Without lights, smoke will be difficult to see on a dark Halloween night.

6. Turn on the fog machine with a switch or remote control. The machine will warm up for 5 minutes before emitting a steady stream of smoke.
