Remove Nicotine Stains From Cultured Marble

Superficial nicotine stains can be removed from marble.

Nicotine stains on cultured marble are the result of old cigarettes that are placed directly on top of the marble. Removing a light nicotine stain from cultured marble is accomplished using a solution that will draw out the nicotine and polish the marble surface. The cleaning process must be done gently to avoid scratching the surface of the marble. If the stain is deep, or if there is a visible burn mark, the marble must be repaired by a professional rather than simply cleaned.

Instructions

1. Place 1 to 2 tbsp. of baking soda into a small bowl and add enough bleach to form a thick paste. Stir the mixture with a spoon to combine thoroughly.

2. Spread the paste mixture over the nicotine stain in a layer that is 1/4- to 1/2-inch thick.

3. Place a piece of plastic wrap over the stained area and allow the mixture to sit for approximately 24 to 48 hours.

4. Remove the plastic wrap and scrub the area gently using a non-abrasive sponge to remove any remaining nicotine stain.

5. Rinse the sponge in clean water and wipe it over the surface of the marble to remove any baking soda residue. Dry the marble with a cloth.
