Amount Ingested
When alcohol enters your body, it must pass through the liver in order to be metabolized. Therefore, one or two beverages will leave your system long before a six-pack or more will. Because of this, if you know or suspect that an alcohol test may be coming up, it is best to abstain from drinking for one to two days before the test to ensure the best results and chances of passing. The average, healthy liver can process about one ounce of alcohol, or approximately one drink, per hour. Also, all alcohols are the same as far as your liver and the tests go. One beer is one shot is one glass of wine is one mixed spirit.
Frequency
Someone who has the occasional drink or two is much more likely to pass a urine test than one who drinks regularly and heavily. For instance, someone who has one beer or one glass of spirits will likely pass the test after just a few hours, whereas a chronic drinker may have to wait days or even longer before the last traces of alcohol are out of her system. Because the liver can only process one ounce of alcohol per hour, the excess that remains in the system stays in the bloodstream waiting to be processed, making it impossible to pass a urine test during that time.
Facts to Know
Most of the accepted remedies for hangovers simply will not work. Coffee will only make you feel more awake, and has zero effect on the amount of alcohol that remains in your system. Likewise, a shower or going to the gym will not increase your chances of passing the alcohol urine test. If you keep to an average intake of one drink an hour at a social gathering, your chances of suffering a hangover and a failed urine test are small. Eating foods that are high in protein will slow the effects of alcohol on the body. Drinking contests or games are very dangerous, and can be deadly. The liver can only metabolize so much, and if there is too much excess alcohol in the bloodstream it can poison your body, causing organs to shut down. Large amounts of alcohol intake at one time also increase your chances of failing a urine test, so it is best to drink responsibly at all times. Also, BAC (blood alcohol content) may continue to rise long after the last drink, depending on how much remains to be metabolized.
