Air conditioning in automobile is a luxury and sometimes, a necessity. Air conditioners keep passengers cool in hot weather and can make or break a driving experience. With much use, just as any other air conditioning system, cleaning and sanitation may be required as A/C units can be host to bacteria and fungi due to water condensation and circulation of dirty air. There are several methods one can use to clean an A/C unit, one being the use of a sanitizer in aerosol cans. These types of air sanitizers are simple to use, cost-effective, and made specifically for auto air conditioning systems. Read the directions on the container for guidelines specific to the brand. There are many car air sanitizers on the market and some may have different operation methods, though they basically use the same principles.
Instructions
1. Purchase an automobile air conditioner sanitizer or cleaner. These can be found in auto specialty stores. They can also be purchased online, as there are numerous sites on the web that cater to automobiles and auto care products.
2. Close all doors and windows of the car and turn on the engine. Turn on the vehicle's air conditioning system and set it to internal circulation or re-circulate mode, where the air in the car is recycled through the air conditioning system. This is most important as this is how the sanitizer enters the system. Open all air conditioner vents.
3. Move the driver seat all the way back and set the can down under the foot well (right in front of the pedals). Push down on the can's button or trigger to release the contents into the cabin. Exit the car and close the door.
4. Wait until the can is fully emptied of its contents and turn off the air conditioning system. Open all doors and windows to ventilate the cabin.
