Advantages Of Nicotine

Nicotine in cigarettes is well known to be the No. 1 preventable killer in today's world. Nicotine is the study of much research, resulting in potential beneficial outcomes from using the drug.

Antidepressant

Nicotine mimics the rush of dopamine and serotonin in the brain, which provides a euphoric lift. People suffering from depression often have chemical imbalances in these brain areas. Scientists at Duke University Medical Center are studying the effect that nicotine has in restoration and regulation of mood in these neurotransmitters.

Parkinson's Disease

Science Daily reports that patients suffering from Parkinson's disease see a reduction in tremors and shaking (dyskinesias) when treated with nicotine. Dyskinesias is caused by Parkinson's medication and nicotine in smoke may have a "neuroprotective" effect to the patients.

Weight loss

Many people believe that nicotine can reduce or dull the appetite and therefore promote weight loss. Vanderbilt University reports that smoking may increase heart, energy and metabolic rate, burning extra calories.

Insecticide

According to New Mexico State University, nicotine is an effective insecticide. When sprayed on plants, it is toxic to warm-blooded animals and used specifically against piercing insects in gardens.

Energy

According to Informa Healthcare, smoking while in a resting state resulted in a 3.6 percent rise in energy. Smoking during light physical activity showed a 6.3 percent rise.
