Apply Kilz Primer Having A Sprayer

Surfaces that are stained can be treated with Kilz Primer prior to painting.

Kilz Primer is a brand of stain-blocking interior base paint. It is used to pre-treat surfaces that have been blemished by water damage, pencil, marker, grease, ink, crayon, nicotine and other types of discoloration that may bleed through regular paint. Kilz Primer can be used on several types of surfaces: wood; plaster; brick; drywall; paneling; masonry and painted metal. Masterchem Industries, producers of Kilz primer, does not recommend the product be used on flooring. Kilz Primer is a heavy-duty primer that can be brushed, rolled or sprayed on a surface, however, due to its viscosity the product must be thinned down for use in a paint sprayer.

Instructions

1. Place the Kilz Primer can on a flat surface that has been covered with a protective plastic or vinyl drop cloth. Use a flat-head screwdriver or paint key to carefully pry around the lid of the primer and open the can.

2. Stir the Kilz thoroughly with the paint stick. It should not need much stirring, but make sure the product is creamy, with no watery residue on top.

3. Remove approximately 1 1/2 to 2 cups of the product from the can using the measuring cup, and reserve it in a covered container

4. Add 1 1/2 to 2 cups of water to the can of Kilz. Use the wire whisk to stir the water into the primer until a smooth consistency is achieved.

5. Load the paint sprayer according to manufacturer's instructions. Spray the prepared surface using wide, steady strokes to avoid running.

6. Add the 1 1/2 to 2 cups of primer that was originally removed back to the can. Add 1 to 1/2 ounces of water to the mixture and stir it with the wire whisk. Refill paint sprayer as needed.
