Write An Essay On Smoking

Writing an essay on smoking requires knowledge about smoking.

The subject of smoking often sparks a lot of controversy. People that don't know a lot about smoking and the effects of it often come across as ignorant about the subject. To write a strong, informative essay about smoking, you'll need to brainstorm what exactly it is about smoking that you want to talk about. Writing clear, strong and factual sentences is key to creating a well-written essay on smoking or any other topic.

Instructions

1. Outline the main points of the essay. Your essay on smoking must contain a set of main points. Make a list of three or more points that you want to write about. For example, you could use "The addiction of nicotine," "The health effects of smoking" and "The physical effects of smoking" as your main points.

2. Write an introduction. Your introduction should clearly outline your stance on smoking and what the essay is going to be about. For example, if you're writing a persuasive essay to encourage people to stop smoking, then you need to say that in your introduction. You should also introduce your main points either throughout or at the end of the introduction.

3. Expand upon your main points. The body of the essay is your chance to explain your main points. For example, when talking about the addition of nicotine, you could say "Nicotine is addictive and interrupts your daily life every time you need a smoke break."

4. Incorporate the other side of the argument. Whether you're writing a cause-and-effect essay, persuasive essay or factual essay, you need to touch on the opposite viewpoint. For example, if you're talking about the health effects of smoking, you could say "Smoking does calm your nerves and relaxes you, especially in stressful situations, however, it also leads to an increased risk of lung cancer." Acknowledging the other side essentially says that you understand the opposite viewpoint and your essay isn't completely biased.

5. Cite your sources. Essays and reports on smoking are inherently factual; the subject doesn't allow for a lot of room for opinions on the safety of smoking. You'll need to cite your sources when you incorporate studies, facts and figures in your work.
