Detox From Nicotine

Will power, discipline and patience are perhaps the most powerful weapons to help detox from nicotine--that addictive toxin present in tobacco products. This toxin, along with other carcinogens present in cigarette smoke, is responsible for serious, often fatal, heart disease and lung cancer. While many use chewing gum or skin patches laced with synthetic nicotine to detox from escape the addition, the best way is to stop smoking and eliminate nicotine altogether. However, you must know that nicotine can remain in the bloodstream even up to a month after quitting cigarettes. So, if you really don't want your life and dreams go up in smoke, here are some measures you can take to flush nicotine out of your system.

Instructions

1. Gather the resolve. Reflect on how your dreadful habit is harming you and your family. Think hard about the repercussions of falling seriously ill, for example, the money you'll spend on medication--or hospitalization, the negative effects on your business, job and lifestyle. Make a bold decision to quit smoking. Then be steadfast and resolute to stand by that decision.

2. Nip nicotine in the bud. As the tobacco in cigarettes is the source of nicotine, it makes sense to reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke everyday. Quitting smoking is a gradual process and incredibly difficult for most smokers to do at the drop of a hat.

So, start by cutting out one cigarette every day for a week. Try smoking two fewer per day the following week. Then continue this process until you reach a target of no cigarettes per day. This may sound difficult, but it can be done.

3. Resist temptation. While detoxing from nicotine, you may often find yourself in a situation that could re-ignite your craving for nicotine, break your resistance and compel you to reach for a cigarette.

Spending time with friends--specifically, with those who smoke--private parties, pubs and bars frequented by smokers or any other place where people gather, are some examples of situations that could make you vulnerable. Avoid such places as far as possible, as it will keep the temptation to smoke at bay.

4. Alter your diet. Consume foods that are nutrient-rich and easy to digest, such as low-fat dairy products, vegetables, fruits, legumes and nuts. Make sure to drink plenty of spring or steam-distilled water. This will also help to flush toxins from your body.

5. Increase your fiber intake. Fiber is ideal for flushing the intestines and colon of toxins, including nicotine, and other harmful waste matter. Foods with high fiber content include beans, oat bran and whole grains.
