Nicotine Smell Removal

Cigarettes leave nicotine odors and stains in your home.

Nicotine is one of the components of cigarettes that leaves smells and stains in your home. These odors permeate porous surfaces such as carpets, clothes and upholstery and can also cling to walls and other hard surfaces. In order to eliminate the odor, wash all the surfaces and use odor-eating substances such as baking soda to get rid of any lingering smells.

Instructions

1. Clean all washable items in the washing machine. Use your regular soap, water temperature and cycle to clean the clothes. Add 1 cup vinegar to the rinse cycle to eliminate any lingering nicotine smell.

2. Sprinkle baking soda on upholstery and carpets. Allow it to sit for at least 30 minutes but preferably overnight. Vacuum it up.

3. Place shallow dishes 3/4 full of vinegar in the room. Use a dish in every room that still has nicotine smells.

4. Mix 1/2 water and 1/2 vinegar in a spray bottle and spray down any nicotine stains on walls. Wipe with a sponge. This is only necessary in rooms where smoking was heavy and the walls are stained.
