Reduce Nicotine Urges

Breaking a nicotine habit can be very challenging but it's not impossible. With patience and determination, you can work through the cravings and give up smoking for good.

Instructions

1. Stay physically active. Go for a jog or spend a few minutes doing jumping jacks. Just get your body moving. The physical activity can bring the nicotine cravings to a halt.

2. Make a list of reasons why you want to quit smoking. Include the health benefits, the years you will be adding to your life and the money you will save. Carry the list with you and take it out and read it as a reminder whenever you feel the urge to smoke. Read it right before you go to bed at night to put it into your subconscious mind.

3. Create a support system for yourself. Have a friend you can call when you need help staying motivated. This can also help keep you distracted from your cravings.

4. Replace cigarettes with healthy foods. When you feel the urge to smoke, chew on carrot or celery sticks. Some smokers find it helpful to hold them between their first fingers like a cigarette. This gets them through the craving without actually smoking.

5. Reward yourself. Make a chart and put a little gold star on it each time you successfully make it through a craving. Then plan an even bigger reward to give yourself after you have earned a certain amount of stars and have reached other milestones with your cravings.
