Eliminate Acidity Reflux Physician

get rid of stomach acid

People go to great lengths in order to get rid of acid reflux, including daily prescriptions that may or may not be necessary, depending on the individual. There are a variety of natural ways to get rid of acid reflux that include everything from major lifestyle changes to simple quick fixes.

Instructions

1. Identify the intensity of your problem. If your acid reflux has become so debilitating that you are having trouble functioning at home or on the job you may have a condition called gastritis. Gastritis can worsen leading to chronic ulcers. If you believe you may have gastritis please, take the time to see a doctor.

2. Don't skip meals. You want your stomach acid to stay busy to avoid acid relux. Try to eat small meals and have frequent healthy snacks.

3. Avoid citric fruits. As much as you may love to have that grapefruit for breakfast in the morning, don't do it. Citric fruits such as oranges and grapefruit have a very high acid content and are likely to trigger an acid reflux attack. Have a banana or an apple instead. These fruits are just as good for you and are much less likely to make you uncomfortable later.

4. Chew gum after meals. Chewing gum stimulates the production of saliva which is very alkaline in nature. This counteracts the overproduction of stomach acid during digestion and helps prevent acid reflux.

5. Participate in relaxation techniques. You can be stressed and not even realize it--but your body does. Stress levels contribute to the overproduction of stomach acid that you feel as acid reflux. Try to spend 15 minutes each day after meals doing something that relaxes you or that you enjoy.

6. Reduce your nicotine intake. Nicotine has a great effect on the digestive system. An individual without digestive problems may never notice it, but reducing the amount of nicotine your body takes in every day can help you prevent chronic acid reflux. If you decide to quit, do it slowly. Quitting smoking can prove to be a very intense source of stress which could actually worsen the acid reflux, not improve it. Deciding to quit is a great decision, but do it on your own terms.

7. Drink cold milk. Even the greatest prevention techniques cannot end the tendency to be prone to acid reflux. A glass of cold milk can stop an acid reflux attack in its tracks. Some people have also found relief from eating a handful of saltine crackers or a piece of plain bread.

8. Use over the counter medications. If you haven't tried the OTC medications for acid reflux, give them a shot. If one doesn't work for you, try another. The majority of people will find at least some relief with these medicines and they are cheaper than the copay of just one doctor's visit--and that's if you are one of the lucky individuals with insurance.

9. Give it time. For children and teens who experience chronic acid reflux time can be the cure. Once their bodies finish developing and their digestive systems mature the problem usually goes away on its own.
