Pfizer is a research and development company that was established in 1849. They are credited with the development of a number of popular medications, one of which is the smoking-cessation drug Chantix.
Types
Chantix is the brand name for the Varenicline. There is only one type. It is commonly used to help people quit smoking. Varenicline is designed to elevate some of the unpleasant mental and physical side effects of nicotine withdrawal. It accomplishes this by binding to the nicotine receptors, blocking uptake of nicotine and mimicking some of its pleasurable qualities.

Unlike over-the-counter medications that are priced based on consumer demand, Chantix is a prescription medication. In order to use Chantix, you will need to visit your doctor to determine if you can safely take Chantix and have him write you a prescription. This will limit your possibility of finding a "cheap" source, as the price will be determined by the drug company and your health care provider. As of October 2010, there are no generic versions of Chantix on the market. Drug representatives will often supply physicians with free drug samples. Asking your doctor if he has some free samples of Chantix would save you money.
Side Effects
Most people who take Chantix have little to no problem with the medication. However, there are a few possible side effects such as insomnia, headache, nausea and abnormal dreams. If there are any unpleasant reactions, the best course of action is to contact your doctor immediately.
