Use Commit Lozenges

Break the habit with Commit lozenges.

Addiction to nicotine results from an increase in dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain. Dopamine and Norepinephrine levels decrease when smoking stops; causing some people to experience withdrawal symptoms. Nicotine replacement therapies, such as Commit, supply the body with nicotine to decrease withdrawal symptoms. Therapies come in four forms: gum, patches, lozenges and inhalers. The Smoking Cessation Health Center notes nicotine replacement therapy is safe when used correctly. Your chances of quitting smoking double when some form of nicotine replacement therapy is used. Consult a physician about the best form of therapy for you.


Use Commit Lozenges

1. Avoid drinking 15 minutes before or after using Commit lozenges, particularly acidic drinks such as soda, coffee or juices. Acidic beverages hinder the absorption of the nicotine in the lozenge.

2. Slowly dissolve the Commit lozenge by placing it in the mouth. Do not bite or swallow the lozenge whole.

3. Switch the lozenge from one side of mouth to the other side. Make an effort not to swallow too often while the lozenge is melting. Commit lozenges usually dissolve completely within 20 to 30 minutes.

4. Use at least nine lozenges per day for a duration of six weeks unless otherwise instructed by a physician.

5. Hiccups, heartburn, nausea or other uncomfortable side effects can occur when a patient does not take the lozenges according to the instructions. For example, side effects can occur when using more than one lozenge at a time or using another lozenge immediately after the first one has dissolved.

6. Avoid taking more than five Commit lozenges in six hours.

7. Do not take more than 20 Commit lozenges in a day.

8. Avoid smoking while using Commit lozenges.

9. Discard lozenges that you cannot finish.

10. Take a missed dose when you remember it.

11. Use as directed by a physician. Read the patient leaflet. Direct any questions to the pharmacist when purchasing your lozenges.
