Free Assistance To Stop Smoking Cigarettes

Many people start smoking cigarettes in their youth, because it seemed like the cool or popular thing to do at the time. Unfortunately, soon after you have begun smoking, you realize that it is incredibly difficult to break the habit.

Thankfully, help is available for those who want to quit smoking. People may want to quit because they are pregnant, or for their overall health, or as a good example to their children. It is important to get all the assistance you can to stop this difficult habit.

Free Websites

The U.S. Government has a website, smokefree.gov, with numerous resources available to help you stop smoking. There are quizzes to offer help with discovering the reasons why you smoke, as well as your reasons for quitting. You can begin a "cravings" journal to plan for what you will do the next time you want a cigarette. There is a downloadable guide to help you quit. You can even get live help from a smoking cessation counselor and expert if necessary.

On the website of the American Cancer Society, cancer.org, there is a section devoted to helping people stop smoking. You can browse sections of the website on reasons to quit, take a quiz to find out if you will need support to quit, and find resources to get that support.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers free assistance on its website also. The website has information to download. If you click on the "Quit" link, more websites will be listed, as well as a toll-free number you can call to get free help anytime. Special situations or conditions are addressed in detail on this site.

Human Support

Besides getting information online, or even from your doctor, the best free thing you can do to help yourself stop smoking is to get some real human support. Look in the newspaper in your area or find out from your doctor's office if there is a support group available for smokers who want to quit. Go to the meetings and attend faithfully.
