Nicorette Small Lozenge Directions

Nicorette is a popular stop-smoking aid.

Nicorette is a stop-smoking product that is sold without prescription in most drug stores. Originally it was used as a chewing gum, but is now also available as lozenges and mini lozenges. Nicorette contains nicotine and works by gradually reducing the amount of nicotine you put in your body, thus easing you off your addiction. Smoking involves both physical and psychological addiction. Nicorette addresses the psychological part with a personalized support program. Use Nicorette products only for cigarette addiction.

Instructions

1. Check with your health care provider before using Nicorette. It may be contraindicated for people with certain conditions or it may interact with a drug you are taking. Nicorette is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

2. Buy the mini Lozenges that are recommended for you. If you smoke your first cigarette 30 minutes or more after waking in the morning, use the 2 mg mini Lozenges. If you smoke your first cigarette within 30 minutes of waking, use the 4 mg mini Lozenges.

3. Start your Nicorette program. Mark the day on your calendar. It is recommended that you start first thing in the morning, but if you have a cigarette the first day, wait at least 30 minutes before taking your first mini Lozenge. Do not smoke while you are on the Nicorette program. Throw your cigarettes away. Take one mini Lozenge every one to two hours when you are awake for the first six weeks, preferably when you feel the urge to smoke (but 15 minutes after eating).

4. Sign up for the Nicorette support program. You can sign up for "My Quit Plan" on the Nicorette web site.

5. During weeks seven to nine, take one mini Lozenge every two to four hours. During weeks 10 to 12, take one mini Lozenge every four to eight hours. After week 12, you are finished with the program. Do not take any more Nicorette products at this time. You should be able to quit using the amount of nicotine you have been taking in the final stage with minimal withdrawal symptoms.
