Remove A Nicotine Odor

If you smoke in the house or car, and you want to remove the odor of nicotine caused by cigarettes, it can be a difficult process. Nicotine coats everything with a film and has a bitter smell that permeates fabrics and other porous materials. There are some steps you can take to remove the odor of nicotine.

Instructions

1. Wash all white curtains and other removable fabric and clothing with 1 cup of bleach, 1/4 cup of borax and one cup of laundry detergent. Keep the loads small, and rewash if necessary to remove nicotine odor. For colored fabric or clothing, add some odor remover, such as Febreeze, to remove nicotine odor and keep loads small.

2. Use straight vinegar or a high concentration of vinegar to water to wash any paneling, wood flooring or tile. For painted walls, use a primer, such as Kilz, to eliminate the smell, and then repaint with a nonporous paint. Using ammonia can also work to eliminate nicotine smell. Wash all windows and exposed surfaces with a white vinegar and water solution of one part water and four parts vinegar.

3. Wash your carpets with a product specifically made to eliminate smoke odors. Use a product, such as Vamoose 1808T complete home treatment kit, to eliminate any major nicotine odors. This product is specifically formulated to remove tobacco odors. Use a spray such as Lysol or Febreeze for any residual odor.
