Get Rid Of A Fentanyl Patch

Fentanyl patches are prescribed medication provided on a patch for moderate to severe pain. Fentanyl is a strong opioid medication that can cause overdose situations. The patch is attached to the skin in a discreet location, such as the upper part of the arm or shoulder. The patch still has medication on it after removal, so it is important to dispose of it properly for the safety of the household.

Instructions

1. Remove the patch from the arm. If removal of the patch is done by someone other than the patient, ensure that patch is removed with care and the tips of the fingers. This ensures that you do not receive a harmful dose of fentanyl on the skin.

2. Fold the patch in half at the sticky side. Ensure that the patch is firmly folded and that no free ends of the patch are free. This ensures that no one in the household can accidentally pick up the patch and get the medication on the skin.

3. Wrap the patch in plastic or a paper towel. You can even insert the patch in a zippered plastic bag for added security. Wrapping the patch ensures that if the patch falls out of the trash, someone picking up the bag does not touch the patch.

4. Throw the wrapped Fentanyl patch in the trash. You can take extra measures to ensure no one picks up the patch by discarding it in a dumpster or taking out the trash after you have removed it.
