Instructions

Use Herbs to Quit Smoking

1. Cleanse your system. Smoking brings many toxins in to the body. The first step in quitting must involve flushing your tissues from toxins. This can be done by detoxifying your body for 24-hour period with a liquid-only cleansing diet. For one day, do not eat any solid foods. Only ingest herbal drinks and teas, fresh vegetable and fruit juice and 8 to 10 glasses of spring water. If one is available, sit in a sauna or steam bath for 20 to 30 minutes. If you don't have a sauna or steam room, take a hot bath with 10 to 20 drops of eucalyptus or fir oil mixed in.

2. Drink one cup of ephedra tea with breakfast. Ephedra is natural bronchial dilator and diuretic that will help you rid your body of the toxins found in cigarette smoke. It will also help your lungs work properly as they repair themselves. Ephedra tea can be hard to come by, as many health food stores may be unable to obtain it. However, it is out there in bulk form and can easily be steeped to make tea at home.

3. Drink one cup of licorice/peppermint tea with lunch and dinner. Licorice and peppermint promote mental alertness and will ease your craving for nicotine. Peppermint and licorice teas also work well with a 1/2 tsp of ginger added.

4. Take 3000 mg of vitamin C each day. Vitamin C will help repair your tissues, increase your immune system, and act as a powerful antioxidant and antihistamine. Vitamin C is sold at most grocery stores, pharmacies and health food stores in a variety of dosages.

5. Drink one cup of valerian root tea before going to bed. Valerian is a European plant that is known for its powerful calming effects. Quitting smoking often causes increased anxiety, stress and insomnia which lead to nicotine cravings. Valerian root can be difficult to find, however, most health food stores are able to order it in bulk quantities. Making tea from valerian root is simple and can be done at home. If you are unable to obtain valerian root, caffeine-free chamomile tea can also be used to calm your body before bed.

Body Car and Exercise

6. Take a brisk walk at least once a day for two weeks. Concentrate on breathing while you walk. Inhale deeply and exhale slowly, keeping a moderate pace. Walking promotes adequate blood flow and healthy lung activity.

7. Stretch properly before beginning your day and going to bed. Stretching awakens tight muscles and joints and gets your blood flowing so you may alertly focus and rest at night.

8. Visit a chiropractor once a week for a month or as directed. Chiropractic adjustments will help rid your body of smoking-related toxins that herbal supplements are unable to attack. Adjustments also will keep your body aligned, reducing stress, anxiety and nicotine cravings.
