Percocet is a prescription painkiller you might used after surgery. It is generally used to help treat moderate to severe short-term pain. While on the drug, it will pass through your body and exit by being flushed out in the urine. Perocet
Percocet helps fight short-term pain through a combination of different ingredients, its main being oxycodone. It has been approved by the FDA, and the drug has been out on the market since the mid-1970s. Like many other prescription painkillers, the drug can be heavily abused. Percocet and its counterpart, Vicodin, have been linked to 400 deaths annually. These deaths are from overdosing and causing damage to the liver. As long as the drug is taken correctly and stopped when it is not needed again, you will be perfectly fine.
Doctor Information
If you are prescribed Percocet by your doctor and have an upcoming drug screening for work or school, it will be best to get some sort of doctor's note to give to your testers. Because Percocet is considered a drug linked to substance abuse (it is a Schedule II drug under the Controlled Substance Act), you will be red-flagged when taking the test. Without a doctor's note, it might be difficult to convince your employer you are not addicted to the painkiller (unless you have some sort of broken bone in a cast). A doctor's note should not be too hard to obtain. Either have your doctor write you one when you go in for the prescription, or call your doctor when you hear about the drug test and let her know you will need the written information.
How Long in System
Unlike other controlled substances and drugs, Percocet does not stay terribly long in your system. The drug should completely be out of your body and clear from your urine after three to five days. If you are only taking the medication once a day, it will be around three days, but if you are taking Percocet several times a day, it most likely will stay in your urine track the full five days. If you can be off the medication for a solid week before the drug test, you should be fine.
