Use Nicorette Gum

Nicorette gum may help replace some of the nicotine that a smoker craves in a cigarette. Relieving some of these cravings sometimes helps a smoker become less addicted and quit the actual habit of smoking. Nicotine gum may work well for those who are in the office for a long period of time and unable to smoke. It may also help smokers go longer without a cigarette during sporting events, family gatherings and even while traveling.

Instructions

1. Talk to the doctor or a pharmacist before using Nicorette gum. Ask about possible side effects the gum may have while interacting with prescriptions you are currently using. Discuss allergies or any other medical conditions such as irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, tumors, diabetes or a blood vessel problem.

2. Check on the back of the Nicorette gum packet regarding exact dosage to take. Meet with your doctor to discuss the dosage and to see if it is safe for you. The doctor may want to perform an examination to determine if it is safe for you to chew Nicorette gum.

3. Refrain from eating or drinking 15 minutes before chewing the gum. Place the gum in the mouth and chew just as you would chew with normal gum. Be sure you do not swallow the gum as this may cause stomach discomfort.

4. Store the gum on you at all times. When you have the urge to smoke, take out a piece of gum and begin to chew it slowly. Bite down on the gum and hold it between your cheek and your gum. Keep the gum in this location for about one minute. Then chew the gum slowly, then bite down and repeat the process.

5. Continue chewing the gum this way for about thirty minutes. This amount of time will allow the nicotine to flow into your system and hopefully help you resist the urge to smoke. Continue to chew on fresh pieces until the urge dissipates.

6. Use the gum as long as you have a craving for a cigarette. If you find yourself only using the Nicorette gum one or two times a day, you may not need to use it anymore to stop smoking. You may still crave a cigarette on occasion and if this is the case, carry the gum around for emergency purposes only.

7. Stop using the gum if it affects dentures in the mouth. If you have dentures or other dental issues involving your teeth, talk to the dentist before using Nicorette gum. The gum may stick to dental work and cause damage.
