Obtain The Odor Of Tobacco Smoke From Clothing

No one wants to smell like cigarettes

Nobody enjoys the smell of cigarettes. Even most hardcore, 3 pack a day smokers will admit the smell itself is repulsive. It's the addictive nicotine that keeps them smoking - not the luxurious odor.

Non-smokers who live with smokers report this as their #1 pet peeve about their smoking companions...how awful it smells.

While you may not be able to avoid going over to visit that chain smoker in your family, you sure can do something about the noxious fumes that stain your clothing. The smells do come out using relatively inexpensive products with items you most likely already have around the house.

Instructions

1. Soak items in vinegar. The acids in vinegar neutralize odors, especially when you combine it with baking soda. For clothes : soak in a mixture of baking soda and vinegar (1 cup of baking soda with 1 cup of vinegar at least) and then wash in hot water as you normally would with the vinegar/baking soda mixture along with some detergent. For drapery : remove drapery from wall and set in bathtub full of hot water (just enough to cover drapes NOT full). For each drapery panel pour 1 small bottle of vinegar and let soak for at least an hour. Then wash with detergent and baking soda (1 box).

2. Remove from floors and carpets. You can sprinkle baking soda on the carpet and let it sit before vacuuming it up. You can also add an aromatherapy element to the treatment by purchasing your favorite essential oil and mixing that with the baking soda before sprinkling. For those of you who have wet/dry vacs that can vacuum and wash, you can put a vinegar/water mixture and clean carpets that way too.

3. Open a window. Ventilation is a MUST to overcome cigarette smoke. Ask the smoker to either go outside or open a window when they light up and keep the window open to clear the air afterwards. Other people live there too and have a right for their space and air to be respected.
